Potholes, damaged road signs, inaccessible sidewalks, unauthorised occupation of public land: these are the urban problems that the young, innovative company LOKI monitors on a daily basis on behalf of local authorities. But a large city, such as Turin, Italy, harbours many more: there is still a need for new solutions.
During the hackathon on Friday 9 October 2026, starting at 14:00 (2:00 pm) in person in the Agorà Hall of the Innovative Companies Incubator of Politecnico di Torino (I3P), specific challenges based on the real needs of Italian local authorities will be presented, and the teams – supported throughout the afternoon by LOKI mentors – will have just a few hours to develop a solution and present it to the judging panel. A prize will be awarded to the winning team, and the proposals will be assessed on the basis of three criteria: impact on the local authority, technical feasibility and quality of the pitch.
LOKI is a Turin-based deep tech start-up, incubated at I3P and part of the ESA BIC Turin incubation program. Using its Asfalto Sicuro® technology, it transforms vehicles into tools for continuous road monitoring, combining computer vision, GNSS and AI. The company works with local authorities and infrastructure operators in Italy and across Europe: key clients include the City of Bari, MM S.p.A. in Milan, Las Rozas in Madrid (Spain) and Lviv (Ukraine).
How to join the event
The LOKI hackathon, one of the official Side Events of Wave by Vento 2026, is open to everyone: neither programming skills nor a Wave pass are required to join it. Participants can take part on their own – teams can be formed on the spot – or as part of an existing team.
Participants are advised to bring their own laptop, along with its power supply, and any equipment that might be useful for working on a technology-related project.
The event will be held in Italian and English language: pitches may be delivered in either one. Photographs and video footage will be taken during the event for promotional purposes.
Attendance is free of charge, subject to registration on Luma.
