ESA launches the Odyssey Call for Ideas to help shape Europe’s approach to orbital refilling

July 28th, 2025
The Call is open from 25 July to 16 September 2025. An Odyssey Pitch Day will follow in September.

In-Space Proof of Concepts (InSPoC) has announced the Odyssey Call for Ideas to help shape Europe’s approach to orbital refilling.

Odyssey is a preparatory initiative that will lead to the first in-orbit demonstration of an operational orbital propellant depot (OPD).

This Call gives European industry the opportunity to influence Odyssey’s direction from the beginning. ESA welcomes input on:

  • In-orbit refilling use-cases and mission needs

  • Potential configurations and objectives for Odyssey

  • Technical, programmatic, and commercial challenges

  • Business models, financing structures, and partnership approaches

  • Interest in joining future procurements as a prime or subcontractor

  • Expressions of interest to pitch during the Odyssey Pitch Day

Submissions will support ESA’s planning for the upcoming Odyssey Preparation Phase and define the scope of a future Invitation to Tender (ITT).

Participation is open to all ESA Member States, Associate Member States, and Cooperative States. As with other FLPP activities, the process supports engagement at different stages – whether you’re ready to contribute now or plan to join later.

The Call is open for applications from 25 July until 16 September 2025. An Odyssey Pitch Day will follow in September: this virtual event will gather the ecosystem and match-make Primes, and enabling techno providers and potential partners, to get ready for the launch of the Odyssey Preparation Phase.
